Social Media & Brand Growth Intern
ŌU | New York, NY (Hybrid)
Current students only
- Unpaid; academic credit only
- Approximately 15–20 hours/week for 12 weeks, coordinated with your academic schedule
ABOUT ŌU
ŌU is a botanical wellness brand bringing traditional Chinese wellness into a new generation of everyday rituals. We’re building a thoughtful visual world across our products, storytelling, and community—and looking for a creative student who wants to help bring that world to life on social media.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This internship sits at the intersection of design, content, and marketing. You’ll work with the founder, designers, illustrators, and brand ambassadors to turn brand ideas into engaging social content, help manage our channels, and learn how creative decisions influence audience growth. Instagram is our priority, with content adapted for TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube Shorts.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys both making the post and understanding why it works: a strong visual eye, clear writing, short-form video skills, and practical experience building an audience.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Help plan a content calendar around product stories, everyday rituals, community, and brand moments.
- Create Instagram posts, carousels, Stories, Reels, Pinterest graphics, and short-form videos, using typography, layout, imagery, and illustration to express a consistent brand identity.
- Write captions, video hooks, scripts, and calls to action that sound natural and reflect ŌU’s voice.
- Film and edit short-form content: develop shot lists, select footage, add captions and sound, and adapt edits for each platform.
- Collaborate with our designers and illustrators on creative briefs, reusable templates, and campaign assets.
- Support account management: organize assets, schedule and publish approved content, and help respond to comments and messages with guidance.
- Research and help coordinate UGC creators and brand ambassadors, including outreach drafts, content briefs, deliverable tracking, and permission to reuse content.
- Test content themes, hooks, and formats; review reach, watch time, saves, shares, engagement, profile visits, and follower growth to suggest the next experiment.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully for research, ideation, copy variations, and editing workflows, while maintaining original thinking and checking accuracy and brand consistency.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Current enrollment in graphic design, illustration, visual communication, fine arts, digital media, advertising, creative marketing, or a closely related art/design program, with eligibility to receive academic credit.
- A portfolio showing visual storytelling and design fundamentals, including social content. Coursework, personal projects, and student-organization work are welcome.
- Marketing knowledge through coursework, projects, or experience: audience research, brand positioning, content strategy, and basic social analytics. A separate marketing degree is not required.
- Experience creating, posting, and managing content for at least one social account—your own, a student organization’s, a brand’s, or a client’s—with a clear example of how you helped it grow.
- Working ability in a design tool such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, or Canva, plus a video editor such as CapCut or Premiere Pro. You do not need to know every tool.
- Strong English writing, attention to detail, reliable communication, and openness to creative feedback.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted creative workflows and the judgment to refine the results.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience finding or collaborating with UGC creators; product photography; illustration or motion design; interest in food, tea, wellness, beauty, or lifestyle brands.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
You’ll receive regular feedback from the founder and creative collaborators, practice the full content cycle from brief to performance review, and build a portfolio case study connecting visual choices with audience insights. Learning goals and a final project will be aligned with your school’s requirements. This is a supervised educational internship with no promise of future employment.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through LinkedIn and upload your resume with these working links included:
- Your portfolio, featuring 3–5 relevant examples, including social graphics and at least one short-form video.
- At least one social account you created content for or managed. State your role and contributions; a personal public account is welcome but not required.
- One brief growth example: starting point, timeframe, actions you took, and results. Include an analytics screenshot or before/after metrics where available, removing private information. We care about your contribution and learning, not a minimum follower count.
- Your current school/program, academic-credit eligibility, and availability.
If you have UGC experience, include a brief example. No cover letter or new unpaid test project is required. Please make sure your links are accessible without requesting permission.
This internship is unpaid and available for academic credit only. School approval must be arranged before the internship begins.
