Position Overview

Job Purpose

The Art Director brings our product to life across photography and motion, taking ideas from first concept through to final delivery. Reporting to the Director, Brand Creative Lead, they will develop and present concepts, lead on figure and off figure product editorials on set, and see the work through post-production. They think beyond a single image, building 360 ideas that come to life across every touchpoint, from OOH and retail theatre to owned social and paid media. This is a hands-on, intermediate to senior role for a fashion art director with strong on-set, motion and post-production experience.

About The Role

Concept & Presentation

  • Partner with the Director, Brand Creative Lead to translate seasonal brand and product direction into editorial and motion concepts, mood boards, shot lists and visual treatments
  • Build every concept as a 360, multi-channel idea from the start, mapping how it translates across OOH, retail theatre and windows, owned social, paid media, eCommerce and CRM
  • Present concepts, casting, location and studio, styling and treatment direction to creative leadership for approval
  • Build the creative decks and shoot documents that set direction for production and execution across channels
  • Plan and shoot with every end use in mind, so stills and motion capture covers formats and crops for OOH, in-store, social, paid and digital placements

On Set

  • Lead the creative on set for product editorials, on figure and off figure (still life, flat lay, form), as well as lifestyle and campaign extension content
  • Direct all aspects of the shoot, including lighting, composition, talent direction, posing, styling and product presentation
  • Art direct motion content on set, from product films and short-form social video to campaign cutdowns and behind the scenes, working closely with directors, DOPs and videographers
  • Collaborate with photographers, stylists, hair and makeup, models and production partners to bring concepts to life
  • Make confident real-time decisions on set that protect the concept, the product and the schedule

Post-Production & Delivery

  • Lead post-production through to final, including image selection, retouching direction, colour, video editing, sound and motion graphics review
  • Brief and manage retouchers, editors and motion designers, giving clear and consolidated feedback
  • Own final asset review and delivery, ensuring all content meets brand, quality and format requirements across brand, social, eCommerce, retail and paid media

Collaboration

  • Work with the in-house Social and Content teams on social-first concepts and content creation as needed
  • Partner with Producers and Production to plan shoots, manage resources and deliver within budget and timelines
  • Collaborate with Brand, Marketing, Product, Merchandising, eCommerce and Retail teams to deliver a cohesive brand experience
  • Step in to support eCommerce photoshoots when needed, upholding styling, lighting and image consistency standards (secondary to the core editorial and motion focus)
  • Bring forward new ideas, emerging trends and tools to elevate storytelling and improve how we work
  • Oversee freelancers and vendors assigned to projects

About You

  • 6+ years of progressive art direction experience in fashion, apparel, luxury or beauty, in-house, at a studio or at an agency. This is an intermediate to senior role; junior candidates will not be considered
  • Fashion experience is required
  • Proven, hands-on experience leading fashion photoshoots in studio and on location, from concept and presentation through to final deliverables
  • Motion experience is required, including concepting, directing on set and guiding the edit for product films and short-form social video
  • Post-production experience is required, including image selection, retouching direction, colour and video edit review
  • A strong portfolio showing photography (on figure and off figure), motion and visual storytelling. Portfolio required with application
  • A proven understanding of 360 and multi-channel campaign execution, with experience seeing concepts through to OOH, retail theatre, owned social and paid media, not just a single hero image
  • Deep knowledge of lighting, composition, colour, styling and photo and video production workflows
  • A confident presenter who can sell an idea to leadership and lead a crew on set
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, After Effects); Capture One and Figma an asset
  • Experience creating social-first content is a strong asset
  • Calm, organized and solutions-oriented under tight timelines, with a meticulous eye for detail
  • A collaborative team player who gives and takes feedback well and plays an active role in critiques and reviews
  • Degree or diploma in art direction, photography, design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
